GRANGER — Five people were hospitalized following a two-car accident at the intersection of Fir Road and State Road 23 in Granger.

Police were dispatched to the scene of the accident just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say a van hit a passenger car from the side, causing the car to slam against a utility pole. As a result, the fire department had to perform a minor extrication for the passengers in the car.

According to a police officer on the scene, both drivers said they had the green light, and the Highway Department was called out to check if the light is functioning properly.

The five people taken to the hospital are believed to have only minor injuries.
