The German Township Fire Department was established in1963 and served the community until July 31st 2006.

On August 1, 2006 the Clay Fire Territory began providing 24-hour, 7 days a week advanced life support and fire protection coverage for German Township. In 2007 the German Township community approved an extensive rennovation and expansion of the existing station. The new building will accomodate up to six 24-Hour firefighters. The station houses a Pumper-Tanker, Tanker, Tactical Support Unit, and 2-Tactical Rescue trailers. Clay Station 3 covers approximately 15 square miles including 2.5 miles of the St. Joseph River and automatic aid to the South Bend Regional Airport.  

This is the newly remodeled Clay Station 3 located on Portage Road in German Township.
