The Clay Fire Territory conducts one On-Call Recruit Firefighter Academy a year. The Academy starts during the 1st week of September each year and lasts through the middle of the following May. The Academy classes are every Monday and Wednesday Night from 6PM-10PM during and one Saturday a month from 8AM-4PM during the September to May timeframe. The Academy consists of over 350 student contact hours and includes Firefighter I/II, 1st Responder, Haz-Mat Awareness, Hat-Mat Operations, TRT Awareness, and Vehicle/Machinery Operations. While the department accepts applicants for potential recruits all year long, applications will only be processed for interviews, background checks, etc one time per year (June-August prior to the next academy).
Requirements to apply:
- Be at least 18 yrs of age.
- Reside within 2 miles of Clay or German Civil Townships, St Joseph County, IN.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Have a valid drivers' license.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
Requirements to apply for the cadet program:
- Be at least 15 yrs of age when applying.
- Reside within 2 miles of Clay or German Civil Townships, St Joseph County, IN.
- If still in school must be receiving passing grades (2.0 or better GPA) and no truancies. Grades must be submitted each semester.
